Original Deco Art

American Art Deco WPA Watercolor by Jerry Roth MAN ON BENCH

This pen & ink drawing on paper was done during the 1930’s by New York WPA artist Jerry Roth (1918 – 2008). Jerry was born Jerome Henry Rothstein and at age 16 was the youngest artist in the Works Projects Administration designing posters for tourism and culture, many owned by the Library of Congress. A pensive gentleman sits on a park bench (could it be Central Park?). The watercolor is 16 ½” x 11 ½” and is signed in pencil “Rothstein” on the lower right and titled and signed “Jerome Henry Roth” on the reverse mat.
