Original Deco Art

He Done Her Wrong! Watercolor by Jerry Roth

Original American Art Deco Art by a WPA Artist

This ca. 1937 watercolor of a woman with a smoking gun in her hand and standing over a fallen man is titled “He Done Her Wrong” and is by Jerry Roth who was, at 16, the youngest artist of the WPA. The watercolor is 17” x 10 5/8” and is signed in pencil on the lower right “Jerome Henry Roth”.

Jerry Roth (1918 – 2008) was born Jerome Rothstein in the Bronx, New York. He acquired the middle name “Henry” at the age of four when he became dangerously ill with pneumonia. Jewish tradition contrived to fool the Angel of Death who would come to Earth with orders to take Jerome Rothstein. At a later date he became Jerry Roth.
